SINK! Summer Update + Subclass Playtest!
9 months ago – Mon, Jul 07, 2025 at 09:31:56 AM

Hello backers! We’re overdue for an update!

SINK! is our first project, and there have been a lot of complications and unforeseen circumstances, both related to this project and in our personal lives. Tariffs and the general state of the world have created challenges for us as new creators.

We are incredibly passionate, motivated, and excited to bring you into the Caldereach Sea, and we want to give you the best possible version of the products we can. We estimate with the current project completion that fulfillment is going to be delayed approximately six months, pushing from Q2 of 2026 to Q4 of 2026. We trust all of our incredible backers will understand as we take this time to make sure SINK! absolutely shines.

In the meantime, we want to give you stuff you can use in your games right now,so we’ve sent out a full subclass playtest for you to download from BackerKit! Check your Digital Downloads folder in Backerkit right now to download it and make sure to share your playtest feedback at https://sinkrpg.com/playtest.

Additionally, we plan to release our extensive library of magic item tattoos to you for review every month for the next 5 months.  Backers will receive a PDF of 10 tattoos for you to use in your games and we would love your honest feedback!

If you haven’t already, please join our Discord server (https://discord.gg/W2Ybn8MbcZ), where we are happy to answer any questions you have. Thank you for your understanding.

Fate of the Fogweaver Unveiled!
12 months ago – Fri, Mar 28, 2025 at 01:27:41 PM

Thanks to your incredible support in reaching our $250,000 stretch goal, we are releasing our Critical Role-featured One-Shot, Fate of the Fogweaver, written and designed by our very own Ricardo Esquivias and art by Sam Rusk!

You watched as Rick led Taliesin Jaffe, Marisha Ray, and fellow SINK! creator Johnny Stanton through the harrowing journey to discover what became of the legendary Captain Fogweaver. This level 3 adventure is the perfect way to introduce a party of 3-4 players to the mechanics and heart of what makes SINK! so special.

Now, it’s your turn to test your mettle in the Sapphire Strait against the forces of Y’gathul and his Dark Armada. Will you and your players make it out in one piece?

The Fate of the Fogweaver PDF is available now in the Digital Downloads section of your BackerKit account. If you haven’t submitted payment or locked your pledge, you won’t have access to it yet.

Be sure to join our Discord server to participate in the discussion on how to run the adventure with your fellow pirates and discover even more of what makes the Caldereach Sea so exciting.

TWO Updates this Month + NEW TATTOOS + Projects We Love
about 1 year ago – Tue, Mar 11, 2025 at 04:17:08 PM

Our apologies for the lack of updates last month. We will make it up to you with TWO updates this month, including the “Fate of the Fogweaver” one-shot featured on Critical Role releasing later this month!

While you schedule your group’s Fogweaver one-shot, check out these fun updates!

New Tattoos!

First off, we want to share more magic item tattoos with our backers! Introducing the Boar & Beak Tattoos. Getting a pig and rooster tattooed on one’s feet is a classic sailor tradition, hoping to borrow the animals’ luck in surviving a shipwreck. These designs were ones that we were very excited to include in SINK!, especially in expressing their superstitious origins into mechanics!

Our favorite part of these magic item tattoos? If you attune to both of them at the same time, they only count as one attunment slot and get an extra benefit!

Salted Swine Tattoo

Wondrous Item, rare (requires attunement)

A tattoo of a pig upon a foot is not an uncommon sight upon the Caldereach Sea. Old sailor stories say that, in the most trying of times, this tattoo will let its wearer walk on water, however no evidence of this feat has been recorded.

Tether Hold. When an effect causes you to fall to 0 hit dice, you can use a reaction to attempt to keep hold of your final hit die. Roll a Constitution saving throw (DC = 15 + 5 for each attempt after the first before you take a long rest). On a success, you have 1 hit die remaining.

Dawn Fowl Tattoo

Wondrous Item, rare (requires attunement)

This tattoo of a rooster with colorful plumage has its roots in old sailor lore, as chicken are often the most likely survivors of shipwrecks. When the wearer takes damage, a puff of colorful feathers from the wound can sometimes be seen.

Vital Rest. You gain the benefits of a short rest after only 10 minutes instead of the normal 1 hour. When you take a short rest, you can attempt to keep some of the hit dice you use to heal. Make a Constitution saving throw (DC = 10 + 2 x the amount of hit die used during the short rest). On a success, you regain half of the hit dice you used, rounded down.

Boar & Beak Tattoos

Wondrous Item, very rare (requires attunement by someone attuned to the Salted Swine Tattoo and Dawn Fowl Tattoo)

When both the Dawn Fowl and Salted Swine Tattoos are attuned by the same wearer, they combine to become the Boar & Beak Tattoos. Representing survival at all cost, these designs are often tattooed on the wearer’s feet to offer good luck in the face of high tides and strong winds.

Attunement. When the Salted Swine Tattoo and the Dawn Fowl Tattoo are attuned by the same wearer, together they only take up one attunement slot and gain the following abilities.

Resourceful. When you lose a hit die, you can use a reaction to roll that hit die and regain hit points equal to the number rolled. Additionally, if an effect that causes you to lose a hit die also reduces your hitpoints equal to a roll of that die, you may use a reaction to not take any damage. You can use this ability once per short or long rest.

Tether Hold. When an effect causes you to fall to 0 hit dice, you can use a reaction to attempt to keep hold of your final hit die. Roll a Constitution saving throw (DC = 10 + 5 for each attempt after the first before a long rest). On a success, you have 1 hit die remaining.

We can’t wait to see what you do with these magic item tattoos in your games!

Projects We Love

Hero Forge Custom Dice

Hero Forge, the masters in customizable character minis, are entering the world of dice with their custom printed dice sets!

Craft unique dice that reflect your character’s remarkable story with Hero Forge Custom Dice! From cheese-filled D4’s, to D10’s with a trusty familiar inside, to XL D20’s with a bust of your character’s likeness, each dice you design tells a story in every roll.

The dice are 3D printed using the same process as Hero Forge’s custom miniatures, and the clear material of the dice is printed in the same layers as the item or character’s bust inside, resulting in a solid, perfectly-weighted dice. The SINK! creators got to test these out at GenCon and PAX Unplugged this year and we still don’t know how they do it!

Click this link today to see all backing tier options, and to gear up for your next big tabletop adventure with our new Custom Dice. And don’t delay – the Kickstarter ends April 5th!

In addition, make sure you follow our Instagram as well as the Hero Forge Instagram to not miss out on an exciting announcement!

Vidhya’s Guide to the Afterlife: A Film by Rekha Shankar

Friends of the book, Rekha Shankar (Dropout, Dimension 20, Desiquest) and Sandeep Parikh (Desiquest, The Guild), are making a movie

After her grandmother passes away, professional chef Vidhya Ramachandran goes back home to Philadelphia to be with her family. But suddenly, her whole family disappears (along with basically every Hindu in the world) in an unprecedented, un-foretold Hindu Rapture! Now she must team up with the other last remaining Hindu (a very-nearly trustworthy priest) to find her family again.

Inspired by Rekha’s own experience of loss in her family, this sci-fi comedy mixes Palm Springs with The Farewell and promises to make you laugh just as much as it will make you cry.

Join their Kickstarter now to help them make the movie that deserves to be made. Act now to take advantage of Mark Duplass pledging to match up to $20,000 of funding!

That’s all for this update. Come back later this month for the release of the Fate of the Fogweaver!

Sail swiftly, pirates.

Happy 2025! + Upcoming "Fate of the Fogweaver" One-Shot + New Magic Item Tattoos!
about 1 year ago – Thu, Jan 16, 2025 at 12:34:54 PM

Happy (belated) New Year, backers! We at SINK! wish you a happy and healthy 2025!

A few points before we get to the good stuff...

  • The backerkit surveys have been hovering around 89% done for a little while. We want to make sure everyone gets your rewards when they come out! If you lost your survey or it never came, please go to this link (https://sink.backerkit.com/) to recover your survey and fill it out for us!
  • If you feel that you were eligible for one of our bonus rewards (Storm in a Bottle pin, extra temporary tattoo sheet, etc) but do NOT see it in your Backerkit cart, please reach out to Backerkit support or email [email protected] so we can get you taken care of.

Fate of the Fogweaver One-Shot

Now for some exciting stuff! Our one-shot featured on Critical Role is getting ready to be released digitally to all backers this quarter! You can expect to receive it in the Backerkit digital rewards in the next couple months.

If you haven't watched the one-shot with Critical Role yet, here's that video!

New Magic Item Tattoos!

We have new magic item tattoos to share with all of you! The Dragon's Bane collection is a set of tattoos (designed by Sam Rusk, as always) designed to level the playing field against a scaled beast of specific color. While other magic items designed to aid in the slaying of dragons might only deal extra damage when battling a dragon-type monster, the Dragon's Bane tattoos can help you in a wide array of situations, not just when facing down the barrel of a recharged breath weapon.

These magic item tattoos are still being revised, so if you feel like you can help in play testing by offering feedback, please join our Discord and sound off in the #play-testing-arena! We want to hear your opinions on things like if its overpowered or underpowered (in comparison to the other tattoos in the collection), if the mechanics don't make sense, how it was used in your games, or any other feedback you are interested in providing!

Without further ado...

Dragon's Bane Tattoos

Ruby's Ruin

Wondrous Item (tattoo), very rare (requires attunement)

Produced by a magical needle, this tattoo depicts a fearsome red dragon brought to an early end.

Ashreaver. Once per long rest, you can use a bonus action to become a Dragon's Bane. For one minute, you have resistance to fire damage, you cannot be put on fire, and your damage cannot be lowered by any detrimental effects. Enemy damage resistances are ignored and damage immunities become resistances.

Obsidian's Scourge

Wondrous Item (tattoo), very rare (requires attunement)

Produced by a magical needle, this tattoo depicts a monstrous black dragon yet unaware of its grim fate.

Shadowblood. Once per long rest, you can use a bonus action to become a Dragon's Bane. For one minute, you have resistance to acid damage, your hitpoint total cannot be lowered, and you reduce an enemy’s armor class by 1 every time your attack roll is the same number as the creature's armor class. This enemy’s armor class is reduced in this way until they finish a long rest or they physically change their armor.

Alabaster's End

Wondrous Item (tattoo), very rare (requires attunement)

Produced by a magical needle, this tattoo depicts a crazed white dragon in the throes of death.

Frostmaim. Once per long rest, you can use a bonus action to become a Dragon's Bane. For one minute, you have resistance to cold damage, you have the effects of freedom of movement cast upon you, and you reduce an enemy’s speed by 5 feet for every 10 damage you deal to it in a single weapon attack. The enemy's movement is affected in this way until the start of your next turn.

Sapphire's Strife

Wondrous Item (tattoo), very rare (requires attunement)

Produced by a magical needle, this tattoo depicts a menacing blue dragon slaughtered mid-battle.

Thunderslain. Once per long rest, you can use a bonus action to become a Dragon’s Bane. For one minute, you have resistance to lightning damage, you have immunity to the stunned condition, and your movement does not provoke opportunity attacks.

Emerald's Blight

Wondrous Item (tattoo), very rare (requires attunement)

Produced by a magical needle, this tattoo depicts a threatening green dragon forced into a grisly fate.

Venomshorn. Once per long rest, you can use a bonus action to become a Dragon’s Bane. For one minute, you have resistance to poison damage, you have immunity to the poisoned condition, and you have advantage on constitution saving throws.

We want your feedback on these magic item tattoos! If you haven't yet, join our Discord server to be a part of the discussions and community.

Hope you all have a wonderful rest of your January!
